Distance Shading

Distance Shading

Shades particles based on their distance from a point.

Method #

This node shades particles based on their distance from a shape. The shape type is chosen using the Distance Mode parameter. Distance from the chosen shape is then calculated and a falloff function is used to produce a value that is used for shading. The distance calculation may be inverted so that the shading result is greater when further away from the shape.

Parameters

These properties control the 3D transforms of the node. Transforms will generally be inherited by child nodes, although they can be ignored through the Inherit Transform Channels attributes.

ParameterDetails
Position XPosition x in local space
Position YPosition y in local space
Position ZPosition z in local space
Rotation HeadingRotation around y axis in local space
Rotation PitchRotation around x axis in local space
Rotation BankRotation around z axis in local space
Scale XScale along the x axis in local space
Scale YScale along the y axis in local space
Scale ZScale along the z axis in local space

Toggle which transform channels should be inherited from the parent node. By default, all transforms will be inherited.

ParameterDetails
Position XToggle inheritance of the X Position from the parent.
Position YToggle inheritance of the Y Position from the parent.
Position ZToggle inheritance of the Z Position from the parent.
Rotation HeadingToggle inheritance of the Rotation Heading from the parent.
Rotation PitchToggle inheritance of the Rotation Pitch from the parent.
Rotation BankToggle inheritance of the Rotation Bank from the parent.
Scale XToggle inheritance of the X Scale from the parent.
Scale YToggle inheritance of the Y Scale from the parent.
Scale ZToggle inheritance of the Z Scale from the parent.
World Position OnlyInherit the world position from the parent only, rotation and scale will be ignored. Overrides above properties.
Inherit TimeToggle inheritance of time from the parent.

These properties control the core behaviours of the node.

ParameterDetails
Distance ModeChoose what shape the particles are calculated to be a distance from.
  • Point : A point is used.
  • Line : A line is used.
  • Plane : A plane is used.
RadiusOuter radius for which the particles will no longer be coloured.
Inner RadiusInner radius for which the particles will be coloured at their max.
Falloff PowerHow quickly the gradient changes from the inner radius to the outer radius.
ColourChange the colour of the particles as they spawn.
Invert Distancetoggle whether the calculation is done for inside or outside the inner radius.
Blend ModeChoose how the particle colours blend to the source colours
Blend AmountControl how much the new shading affects the particles.
