Cells

This shading node generates a cell pattern in 2D or 3D.

Method #

This shading node generates a cell pattern in 2D or 3D. Shading nodes are applied to material texture channels to generate textures procedurally while rendering.

Parameters

Position XMove along the local x-axis.
Position YMove along the local y-axis.
Position ZMove along the local z-axis.
Rotation HeadingRotate around the local y-axis.
Rotation PitchRotate around the local x-axis.
Rotation BankRotate around the local z-axis.
Scale XScale along the local x-axis.
Scale YScale along the local y-axis.
Scale ZScale along the local z-axis.

Control the inheritance of the transforms from the parent.

ParameterDetails
PositionToggle inheritance of the Position from the parent.
RotationToggle inheritance of the Rotation from the parent.
ScaleToggle inheritance of the Scale from the parent.
World Position OnlyInherit the world position from the parent only, rotation and scale will be ignored. Overrides above properties.
Inherit TimeToggle inheritance of time from the parent.
ParameterDetails
Mapping TypeThe input position channel.
  • World Position : The position of each vertex relative to the scene world space.
  • Object Local Position : The position of each vertex relative to the objects local space.
  • Texture Coordinate : The position of each vertex relative to the objects texture coordinates.
ModeThe cell generation mode.
  • 2D - F1 : Generate in 2d, returning the closest distance to cell.
  • 2D - F2 : Generate in 2d, returning the second closest distance to cell.
  • 3D - F1 Generate in 3D : Returning the closest distance to cell.
  • 3D - F2 : Generate in 3d, returning the second closest distance to cell.
InvertInvert the result.
Manhattan DistanceReturns distance along right-angle steps, rather than the straight line distance.
Noise ScaleScales the cells.
JitterJitters the cells.
Range MinControls the lower value of the output range.
Range MaxControls the upper value of the output range.
PowerControls the power curve between the high and low values.
Preview In ViewportPasses this node’s output to the destination material as a colour channel, so it can be previewed more easily.
