Vortex Affector

Vortex Affector

Applies a rotational velocity to particles.

Method #

This node makes particles move in a rotational manner. This is typically used to create rotational vortex effects, e.g. tornadoes.

The effect is weighted by a falloff calculated using the distance from the node to the particle, ramping from 100% at distance zero down to 0% at the distance specified by the Radius attribute.

All nodes connected to this node are treated as if flowing to the parent node, and inherits any transformation changes along the chain.

Parameters

These properties control the 3D transforms of the node. Transforms will generally be inherited by child nodes, although they can be ignored through the Inherit Transform Channels attributes.

ParameterDetails
Position XMove along the local x-axis.
Position YMove along the local y-axis.
Position ZMove along the local z-axis.
Rotation HeadingRotate around the local y-axis.
Rotation PitchRotate around the local x-axis.
Rotation BankRotate around the local z-axis.
Scale XScale along the local x-axis.
Scale YScale along the local y-axis.
Scale ZScale along the local z-axis.

Control the inheritance of the transforms from the parent.

ParameterDetails
PositionToggle inheritance of the Position from the parent.
RotationToggle inheritance of the Rotation from the parent.
ScaleToggle inheritance of the Scale from the parent.
World Position OnlyInherit the world position from the parent only, rotation and scale will be ignored. Overrides above properties.
Inherit TimeToggle inheritance of time from the parent.

These properties control the core behaviours of the node.

ParameterDetails
Velocity AmountScale the strength of the affectors velocity on the particles.
Spread AngleChange the angle of spread for the particles.
Vortex Angle ScaleControls the effect of the angular velocity by radius, making particles further away from the centre of the vortex move faster.
Outward Velocity Amount / BlendControls the amount particles are pushed outwards.
RadiusAlter the outer radius at which the affector is no longer effective.
RandomnessHow much randomness is added in the particles movement.
Life Effect CoeffsHow much the particles are affected by the affector at different stages of the particles life cycle. Values 1 and 2 are control points used to control a bezier curve between values 0 and 3.
