Camera

Camera

Places a standard 3D camera in the scene.

Method #

This node is used to add standard 3D cameras into the scene, with various camera related controls accessible from the properties panel. Cameras are used to view the 3D content from an assigned perspective, so its generally recommended you add a 3D camera into the scene as early as possible, so you can lock down where you will be rendering your content from and build with that viewpoint in mind.

Focal parameters are only effective when Depth Of Field has been enabled in a Renderer node.
Attach the Target Node input to any object, to have the camera track that object.
To move the Camera to the Orbit Cameras current position, right-click the camera and select Camera Options > Set To Current View.

Nodes parented to this node will generally follow the standard parent-child relationship with nodes in Notch, with a couple exceptions:

  • Most Post-FX nodes will only run when viewed through a camera when connected to the camera.
  • The Camera Focus Target controls the focus position and attributes for the camera.

Parameters

These properties control the 3D transforms of the node. Transforms will generally be inherited by child nodes, although they can be ignored through the Inherit Transform Channels attributes.

ParameterDetails
Position XMove along the local x-axis.
Position YMove along the local y-axis.
Position ZMove along the local z-axis.
Rotation HeadingRotate around the local y-axis.
Rotation PitchRotate around the local x-axis.
Rotation BankRotate around the local z-axis.
Scale XScale along the local x-axis.
Scale YScale along the local y-axis.
Scale ZScale along the local z-axis.

Control the inheritance of the transforms from the parent.

ParameterDetails
PositionToggle inheritance of the Position from the parent.
RotationToggle inheritance of the Rotation from the parent.
ScaleToggle inheritance of the Scale from the parent.
World Position OnlyInherit the world position from the parent only, rotation and scale will be ignored. Overrides above properties.
Inherit TimeToggle inheritance of time from the parent.

These properties control the core behaviours of the node.

ParameterDetails
Zoom FactorThe zoom of the camera. Increasing this value increases the FOV.
Field Of View YThe angle to modify the FOV with. Only functions with Use Field OF View Y enabled.
Use Field Of View YMeasure the FOV using an angle along the Y axis and the scene Aspect Ratio.
Use Field Of View Y As XMeasure the FOV using an angle along the X axis instead of Y. Only functions with Use Field OF View Y enabled.
Near ClipThe closest distance that will be rendered. WARNING: Reducing this value too low can reduce the accuracy of aspects of the render.
Far ClipThe furthest distance that will be rendered by this camera. WARNING: Increasing this value too high, without increasing the Near Clip can reduce the accuracy of aspects of the renderer. Generally best left untouched.
Camera PriorityChange the priority of the camera. If two or more cameras have the same priority, the highest camera node in the nodegraph heirarchy is used.
OrthographicToggle the camera to be an orthographic camera with parallel perspective.
Lock Aspect RatioLocks the aspect ratio of the camera to a defined ratio, as opposed to those inherited from the project settings.
Aspect RatioDefines the ratio between the cameras width and height when Lock Aspect Ratio is enabled.
Film Offset XOffsets the camera view across the directional plane of the film in the local X axis.
Film Offset YOffsets the camera view across the directional plane of the film in the local Y axis.

Control the Depth Of Field properties on the camera. Depth OF FIeld must be enabled on a Renderer Node to function.

ParameterDetails
Focus ModeControl how the camera chooses the focal target for the Depth Of Field
Focal Plane DistanceWhen Manual Focus is selected, sets the distance plane from the camera where the scene is in focus. Use CTRL+LMB to set this interactively in the Viewport.
Focal BlurinessHow much the Depth Of Field blurs the content from the focal plane.
Focus Adaption RateWhen Auto Focus is selected, controls how quickly the focus changes as the auto-focus target changes.
Bokeh ShapeControl the shape of the Depth Of Field Bokeh Shapes.
BladesWhen Polygon is selected, how many blades make up the aperture.
Blade RotationWhen Polygon is selected, controls the rotation of the polygons.
Bokeh ImageWhen Image is selected, select which image should be used for the Depth Of Field shape.

Inputs

NameDescriptionTypical Input
Included ObjectsSelect nodes will be included in the final rendering from this camera. Once a node is connected, all unconnected nodes will be treated as excluded.3D Object
Excluded ObjectsSelect objects to be ignored by this camera. These objects will not be rendered, but will otherwise be generated and impact performance. Once a node is connected, all unconnected nodes will be treated as included.3D Object
Transform ModifiersApply the transforms of another node to this node.Null
Target NodeModifiy the rotations of the node to always direct the z axis towards the input.Null
Local Transform OverrideApply the transforms of another node to this node, relative to its parent.Null
