0.9.23 & 1.0 Support, Plans & Licensing

Updated: 2 Jul 2025

Introduction #

We now provide two major versions of Notch Builder:

  • 1.0 - our new product which is currently progressing through Open Beta
  • 0.9.23 - our legacy product which is in Gold status.

Notch 1.0 is currently in Open Beta and represents the future of Notch. It’s the result of over five years of development and an extensive closed beta period, delivering significant advances in capability and usability. For new projects where you have the opportunity to try things out, we recommend starting with 1.0 to take advantage of these improvements and ensure you’re building on our latest platform. Version 1.0 is actively being used on projects worldwide and has proven reliable and stable in production environments.

0.9.23 is stable, reliable and production-tested through years of continuous use by thousands of users, and remains supported, but is no longer being actively developed. If you need a known quantity which you can jump right into and deploy today, or to work with existing 0.9.23 projects, or need compatibility with legacy licenses, 0.9.23 is ideal.

When Notch 1.0 exits Open Beta later this year and becomes the Gold release, the gradual sun-setting of 0.9.23 will begin. We’ve worked to provide compatibility (where technically possible) to ease the transition between 0.9.23 and 1.0.

Should I use 0.9.23 or 1.0 for my project? #

If you have time to try, test, and check, then 1.0 is a great option and will provide you with new, exciting possibilities in both pre-rendered and real-time content.

If you’re working to a short timeframe and unknown quantities on real-time focused projects, 0.9.23 is production-tested over many years.

Below outlines the compatibility of licenses with 0.9.23 and 1.0 software.

Notch 1.0 and 0.9.23 require separate installers, which you can find in our downloads section.
To access 0.9.23 with an RFX license, you must use the latest 0.9.23 installer (0.9.23.254).

Legacy Plans (Base/Pro) : Transition plan #

If you are on a legacy plan Base or Pro plan, you can continue without any changes to your plan or pricing until the end of April 2026. Your subscription still operates as a Flexible Subscription so you can continue to upgrade and downgrade between Base and Pro plans throughout this time.

After April 2026, you will need to move to one of our new plans. We will be in touch with you to help you with this transition closer to the time.

If you wish to move to a new plan earlier, you can do so by getting in touch with our sales team at support@notch.one.

Important: If you are within your 6 month minimum term, you will need to wait for the completion of this term before migrating to a new plan.

Purchasing Legacy Plans #

To further ease the transition, we are enabling the purchase of legacy subscription plans (Base & Pro) until 30 October 2025.

All Base & Pro plans come with a minimum term of 6 months and require a Codemeter Dongle (which you can optionally add at checkout).

Options for PLE License Owners #

Notch 1.0 has a much more capable trial version that you can use instead of the PLE license. This is where you should start your journey with Notch 1.0.

Beyond this, we will be contacting all historic PLE purchasers with an upgrade offer for the new Indie plan.

0.9.23 End of Life (EOL) Schedule #

Once 1.0 moves out of Open Beta and into Gold status, then we’ll start gradually sun-setting 0.9.23:

  • We’ll continue to sell new Base & Pro Flexible subscriptions until the end of October 2025*, and they will continue under the same terms until April 2026.
  • From November 2025, we’ll be selling an End of Life Perpetual Base 0.9.23 Access License that will give perpetual access to 0.9.23 Base. (NB: The license cannot be upgraded or changed.)
    • During the period until Nov 2025, If you’ve been a long time user of Base, have recently moved on to a VFX Annual plan and need to access a 0.9.23 project in Base, then drop us a line and we will see how we can help you out.
    • From November 2025, this license will cost between £0 - £1,000 (as a sliding scale) depending on your individual account’s spend on subscriptions in the last 24 months.
    • If you’ve held a Base/Pro/VFX/RFX subscription with us for a combined total of 12+ months in the last 24 months the cost of the license will be £0.
    • The End of Life Perpetual Base 0.9.23 Access License cannot be upgraded or changed and does not access 1.0.
    • A monthly RFX license can be purchased at any time to access 0.9.23 Pro features or export blocks.
  • We’ll provide technical support for 0.9.23 on all plans for 6 months after 1.0 has gone Gold. By then we expect the vast majority of new projects to start on 1.0. However, at that point (6 months after 1.0 Gold), show-critical technical support for 0.9.23 will be available for RFX and Playback holders only.
  • We don’t expect to release any more public builds of 0.9.23 after June 2025, but we’ll endeavour to support show-critical issues - including via builds where necessary - based on a reasonable efforts basis.

* The ability to purchase 0.9.23 has been extended from end of June 2025 to end of October 2025 to allow more time for users to transition to 1.0.
